Judge Fein Approves Livestream for YNW Melly Double-Murder Retrial Jury Selection
Fein granted permission on Oct. 13 for the jury selection in YNW Melly’s double-murder retrial in Broward County, Fla., to be livestreamed. Fein submitted administrative orders to the Broward County Clerk outlining strict procedures for the court when jury selection begins for the retrial.
The judge ordered 500 prospective jurors to be summoned for the jury selection, with availability screening conducted in groups of 50. The process will ultimately form a panel of 60 prospective jurors selected from those eligible.
The general public will not be allowed to sit inside the courtroom for the jury selection process. Instead, members of the public will be able to witness the jury selection process via livestream from a separate courtroom.
Fein is implementing tighter security during jury selection due to concerns for the welfare and safety of attorneys, courtroom personnel, prospective jurors, and the public. The judge highlighted numerous incidents of inappropriate contact and communication between prospective jurors and the public during YNW Melly’s previous trial.
Fein described “numerous incidents of inappropriate contact and inappropriate communication and attempted communication between the prospective jurors and numerous members of the public.”
YNW Melly has been behind bars since February 2019, when he was arrested for the murder of YNW Juvy and YNW Sakchaser. Melly and his legal team continue to claim innocence regarding the charges.
The double-murder retrial is set to begin on Jan. 6, 2027. Melly’s next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 27.
