Boosie Just Performed Outside the White House. Given His Pardon Fight, That’s Not a Coincidence.
Boosie Badazz showed up unannounced near the White House this past Friday and performed “Set It Off” for a small crowd that gathered once word got out, with footage from The DMV Live spreading online not long after. On its own, a surprise street performance is just Boosie being Boosie. Given everything he’s been dealing with the last several months, the location isn’t something I think anybody should read as random.
We already know the backstory here. Boosie’s been fighting for a pardon on a federal gun charge tied to a 2023 incident, and earlier this year he got pulled into a $600,000 mess with two political operatives, Jack Burkman and Jacob Wohl, who told him they could fast-track that pardon through connections close to Trump. The deadline passed, no pardon came, and when Boosie asked for the $300,000 refund his contract was supposed to guarantee, they turned around and disputed the deal ever existed the way he described it. He’s since sued them. On 60 Minutes with Lesley Stahl back in September, he laid out the whole story and said afterward the show only aired a fraction of what he actually told them.
So when he turns up performing directly outside the building where the actual pardon decision would ultimately get made, the article covering it is careful to say this hasn’t been confirmed as a protest or a deliberate appeal to Trump. I’ll extend him the same caution. Maybe it really was just a spontaneous moment, a day after his Capital One Arena show on the Cash Money and No Limit Tour, with no deeper message attached. But Boosie’s not a guy who’s been quiet about wanting this pardon, and he’s not a guy who’s shown any reluctance to say exactly what he wants directly to the people who can give it to him. He already sat down in person with the White House’s actual pardon czar, Alice Marie Johnson, doing it the legitimate way before two scam artists convinced him there was a faster route. Choosing this specific spot, at this specific moment, while that fight is still fresh and his lawsuit against Burkman and Wohl is still working through the courts, reads a lot more like a message than a coincidence.
Here’s the thing worth sitting with regardless of his intent. Boosie’s pardon situation has already shown how messy and exploitable this whole process can get when it moves outside official channels, two operatives with a documented history of running schemes targeting Black communities walked away with 600,000 dollars of his money promising access they apparently couldn’t deliver. If this performance was him trying to put his case back in front of the actual man with the power to grant it, directly, publicly, with no middlemen taking a cut this time, that’s honestly a smarter move than the one that cost him $600K in the first place. Whether it lands any differently with Trump than the legitimate meeting with the pardon czar already did remains to be seen. But after getting burned once chasing a shortcut, going straight to the source, in broad daylight, outside the actual White House, is at least a version of this fight nobody can accuse him of hiding.
