Doechii Releases Fan Letter and “Bombs” in “Swamp Sessions” Comeback
Doechii released a letter to her fans on Monday as part of the “Swamp Sessions” comeback, in which she provided an update on her debut album. The rapper also released the song “Bombs” as part of her first “Swamp Sessions” release.
Doechii discussed her time spent studying hip-hop. “I spent the last few years relearning Hip-Hop as a student,” she said.
In her handwritten update, Doechii detailed her creative journey and provided a status on her upcoming debut studio album. Within the letter, she described spending the last few years studying the language, history, and roots of hip-hop.
Doechii expressed her intention to evolve hip-hop by stretching it through different genres, sounds, and parts of herself.
She also outlined a mission to ensure black womanhood exists at the center of hip-hop and pop music. “A mission is brewing inside of me (a responsibility really) to see black womanhood exist at the center of Hip-Hop AND Pop,” Doechii wrote.
Doechii stated her goal is to become the dark skin icon her younger self wanted to see. “I fear my devotion now is to becoming the artist I wish existed when I was growing up. Finally become the dark skin ICON my little girl eyes wanted to see,” she said.
Doechii’s previous project, “Alligator Bites Never Heal,” won the Best Rap Album Grammy. The win propelled her into superstardom. However, some people have accused Doechii of being an industry plant, with claims that her rise was due to bots and label intervention.
